But Psiri encapsulates a lot of what I love about Athens – hundreds of family-run shops selling everything from garlic to gardening supplies, and it's a five-minute walk to the enormous central market. I spent a morning wandering the stalls of fish, meat, olives, and beans. I even grew to appreciate the graffiti – much of it is well-executed and political. Without romanticising the area, I'd return just to explore more of it.”
